Energy Engineer (Thielsch Engineering, Inc; Hyannis, Massachusetts): The Energy Engineer will be responsible for identifying energy efficiency opportunities and completing whole-building analyses and project sales to support energy efficiency initiatives on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. The position will be responsible for assembling data through site visits, manufacturer’s information, and plans and specifications to scope and calculate the impact from energy efficiency recommendations they identify. Relocation costs not supported.
Specific duties include identifying all feasible cost-effective opportunities for improving the efficiency of electric, natural gas, and deliverable fuel systems and end uses in commercial, industrial, and multifamily buildings; developing energy savings analyses, cost estimates, and detailed written reports for the installation of recommended improvements using documented engineering methods and principles and/or existing models and methodologies that are approved and certified in the industry; designing, sizing, and specifying HVAC, building controls, and lighting systems; presenting and selling proposals to interested prospects for the installation of recommended improvements; obtaining, evaluating, and fostering relationships with local sub-contractors; managing the installation of multiple complex engineering projects simultaneously, including in-field troubleshooting; and arranging for financing and incentives to help make the improvements more affordable, working with some of the most aggressive utility-sponsored initiatives in the United States. Approximately 40% regional travel required.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or a related field, plus 2 years of experience budgeting, selling, and implementing energy efficiency and renewable projects.
Must have: Proven understanding of building systems and the ability to develop comprehensive computerized energy simulations and custom calculations with general oversight; ability to comprehend and effectively navigate commercial and industrial energy efficiency incentive programs; experience navigating and upholding pertinent codes and guidelines as defined by the local government; strong comprehension of and experience navigating commercial and industrial energy incentive programs in Massachusetts; and a working knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1 and 62.1 & 62.2 and all pertinent energy codes within the state of Massachusetts, as defined by the state.
