As a Purchasing Agent you will coordinate all activities of Purchasing and Receiving to ensure the customer’s and laboratory’s needs are met in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner. Must be able to work with other departments such as accounting, administration, and billing. The position is full time, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. 




  • Maintains all records and supplies necessary for the efficient, timely, accurate and cost-effective receipt of supplies and equipment. 
  • Delivers all orders received to appropriate group in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and consolidates each section’s orders before delivery to corporate.  
  • Ensures timely delivery of purchase orders to Thielsch corporate purchasing department.
  • Tracks and provides reports to Operations Manager concerning current orders, backorders, and incomplete orders.
  • Maintains lab purchasing database to allow for financial tracking by section, type of supply, by year, etc.
  • Negotiates advantageous pricing for all reagents, hazardous waste services, gases, and other laboratory supplies.
  • Deals directly with vendors to order custom mixes, specialty items, and equipment.
  • Takes an active role in accounts payable, assisting with pricing and other technical information.  Researches problem invoices.
  • Takes an active role is putting together Cost Benefit paperwork for capital expenditures.
  • Assists Operations Manager in researching new supplies and equipment to improve the capabilities and performance of the laboratory. 
  • Actively participates in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment that is in compliance with the requirements of ESS Laboratory's Health and Safety Program (and any additional requirements demanded by local laws and regulations)
  • Other duties as assigned or directed by Operations Manager and/or Laboratory Director.


  • Strong attention to detail.  
  • Needs to have proven problem solving and administrative skills, computer knowledge, excellent customer service skills (internal and external)
  • Typing skills and must have the ability to work effectively with others
  • Must be a Team Player
